Yatomi town in Aichi prefecture has developed craftsmanship of Butsudan (Buddhist Altars) supported by the deep belief of Buddhism.
The technique and methods of building Buddhist Altars have been developed from the early Edo period, it is designated as the Japanese traditional handcraft called “Nagoya Butsudan”.
A Japanese lacquerware craftsman Mr. Hisayoshi Muto wondered if Japanese lacquer itself could form a bowl and established the technique to create it without a wooden or cloth core. The lacquerware of the studio “thin” are created by multiple application of valuable and quality Japanese lacquer and with precious time and careful craftsmanship efforts.
