Yamaichi’s Multi-use Ohitsu is a fine quality ohitsu (container for cooked rice) made from Kiso sawara cypress. This wood is known as an ideal material for being light in weight and resistant to water and acid, and it has been used to make ohitsu and barrels from a long time ago. With excellent air permeability, water absorption and humidity control, rice will not lose its umami flavors and stay delicious even after you transfer it into the ohitsu from a rice cooker.
■DetailsOhitsu can prevent rice from getting dry or sticky, and it can also maintain the chewy texture of freshly cooked rice. Additionally, the subtle scent of Kiso sawara cypress will enhance the rice’s delicious taste. The bottom has a curved surface, the exquisite craftsmanship of Shinshu Kiso craftsmen. By giving the corners of the bottom a certain roundness, it is easy to scoop the rice with a rice ladle, and you also do not have to worry about the grains of rice sticking to the corners. This also means it is easy to wash and take care of. A twisted copper is used for the “taga” (loop), which is a creative touch to the overall design and is applied to the lid and the body. Not only is it stylish, but it also increases the firmness of the ohitsu. This ohitsu is an old-fashioned kitchenware, yet it is a refined product filled with ideas of our ancestors and will become a beautiful addition to your dining table.
