Collection: Ouchi Kougei

Ouchi Kougei founded in 1974, Ouchi Craft is a workshop located in Hita, in northwestern Oita Prefecture.
For over 40 years, the studio has been creating functional and beautifully crafted tableware and kitchen tools, using high-quality moso bamboo grown in the surrounding bamboo forests.
Their signature bamboo chopsticks—slender, smooth, and perfectly straight—reflect the natural strength and elegance of moso Bamboo.
Lightweight spoons and spatulas, designed to fit comfortably in the hand, are also long-loved staples in their collection.

Lightweight and Flexible Moso Bamboo

Moso bamboo—the material used for these chopsticks—is known for its straight fibers and supple resilience, making it an ideal choice for chopstick crafting.
Lightweight and naturally fitting to the hand, these chopsticks offer exceptional ease of use—once you try them, you'll never want to use anything else.
The finely tapered, straight tips allow for precise movements such as picking up small ingredients or removing fish bones.
This refined control supports the graceful handling of delicate Japanese cuisine, allowing every motion to feel effortless and elegant.

Masterful Handcrafting of Finely Tapered Tips

In an era of mass production and mechanization, Ouchi Kougei has stayed true to its roots—creating every product entirely by hand. Crafting the finely tapered tips of their chopsticks requires precision adjustments smaller than 0.2mm.
Because bamboo contains both soft and hard areas—especially around the nodes—uniform machine processing cannot achieve a truly smooth finish.
Only through the subtle, practiced pressure of skilled hands can the natural beauty of bamboo be fully revealed.
This is how Ouchi Kougei continues to produce high-quality bamboo utensils that are as beautiful as they are functional.
