Kai Nobuo Koubou
Founded in 1963, our studio produces bamboo cutlery made of domestic moso bamboo, and in 1996 began producing cutlery made of domestic timber, too. We strive to create products that have both design and functionality. We believe that as long as it is a household item, easy to use is the most important. Our theme is "A pleasant meal with natural warmth”.
Commitment to Design
When creating cutlery for children, special care is taken not only with the design but also with the finish, ensuring each piece gives a gentle and approachable impression. Even forks, which typically have sharp tips, are thoughtfully designed to avoid any sense of danger.
Because each material carries its own unique character, the designs are adapted accordingly. For this reason, every piece is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Cutlery touches the mouth with every meal, and the choice of material alone can influence both the flavor and the overall dining experience. That is why Kai Nobuo is dedicated to creating designs that embody warmth while never compromising on usability.
Pursuit of Usability
Kai Nobuo Workshop is known for offering many smaller-sized cutlery pieces, which are especially popular among families with children. This popularity stems not only from the pleasant mouthfeel of natural materials but also from the artisans’ relentless pursuit of usability, which is reflected in both the design and the comfort of each piece.
The artisans create prototypes, test them in daily use, and refine them based on feedback, repeating this process until they achieve the ideal form. Since cutlery is something that comes into direct contact with the mouth, it must be suitable for everyday use. No matter how beautiful the design may be, it is meaningless without practicality. Each piece embodies the workshop’s philosophy: cutlery must be not only well-designed but also truly functional.
